SpeedNet Communications opened for business in March 2005, with the launch of our cellular brand, Smart. Our objective at that time was to provide the best wireless communication services in Belize at the best rates. We are pleased to say that this is still what drives us four years later. Our 1XRTT CDMA network which is the only of its kind in Belize ensures clear communications, improved mobile data services, and better coverage.
At the time of our launch, people were hungry for better service, better coverage and better rates. Since then we have achieved a number of significant milestones. Within the first year of our launch, we had over 5000 customers making us one of the fastest growing companies in Belize. We are known for competitive rates, unbeatable coverage, superior customer care, and a wide variety of innovative products and services. To date, Smart offers service to over 90,000 fully satisfied customers.
Services Portfolio
Our initial services included both postpaid and prepaid wireless cellular services as well as Short Messaging Service. In October of 2005 we went global, offering international long distance telephone service and in September, 2006 SmartNet was launched as our wireless internet service. SmartNet has given people all over Belize the opportunity to connect with the rest of the world via the internet from anywhere Smart has service. The beauty about this service is that it provides mobility whether you are on your computer or on your phone. Now that is Smart!
Smart also offers a variety of Value Added Services including: the Smart Zone, where you can get your horoscope, updates on the weather, winning Boledo and Lotto numbers and even check the definition a word; With the launch of our SOS services we have given our customers the ability to stay connected even though they have no credit with the Call Me, Collect Calling and Micro Credits features. For people who want to travel with a local number, our international roaming service is great and at the lowest prices in Belize. In 2009 our customers got another option to keep in contact with their friends and family abroad with our International SMS service.
